Support Us
We welcome support from individuals, families, local community organisations, and local businesses. We are delighted that several local astronomical societies (AstroSoc, BAS, and Knowle) and Solihull School partner with us to produce Astronomy in the City events. Opportunities exist for individuals and organisations to volunteer their time and resources to support both these events and the running of the Observatory more generally. We are also very grateful to the Friends and Alumni of the University of Birmingham, and our guests at Astronomy in the City, for their financial support. All funds raised are used to further develop the Observatory for future generations of students and the West Midlands public. For example, the funds that we raise via Astronomy in the City will be used to enhance these events for the public. We are currently raising money to buy a specialised video camera that we can attach to the telescope at Wast Hills, and then beam live video of the night sky into the auditorium at future Astronomy in the City events. Other future projects that would have a huge impact on both our undergraduates, and the public, include converting the telescope to be able to operate as a robot without human intervention! If you would like to discuss your ideas for how to support us, then please contact Dr Ben Gompertz, Director of the Observatory via [email protected]. |
