Local Information - Art & Musuems
The University's Edgbaston campus houses its very own art gallery, The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, which was declared 'Gallery of the Year' by the Good Britain Guide 2004. The gallery contains a fine selection of influential European art dating back as early as the 13th century. The collection compromises a variation of drawings, paintings, prints and scultptures. Some of the many artists represented include Boticelli, Degas, Magritte, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Rembrandt and van Gough. There are many other galleries to be found in the second city, including the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and Gas Hall (Chamberlain Square), Ikon Gallery (Oozells Square) and Midlands Art Centre (Cannon Hill Park). Birmingham also has a wonderful science museum known as Millennium Point. This encompases Thinktank, the Birmingham Science Museum, and the IMAX Cinema. |
