Instrumentation: Solar-B: Testing and Integration

The EIS mechanical and thermal engineering model (MTM/TTM) were delivered to ISAS in April 2002 for spacecraft testing and successfully passed all thermal and mechanical tests. The figures show the MTM/TTM for EIS during integration at Birmingham, thermal balance testing at RAL in the space test chamber and on the spacecraft in Japan.

The flight model structure for EIS was delivered to RAL in September 2003 where it had to undergo harness fitting work and MLI fit check. Finally, integration of subsystems (camera, optics and mechanisms) takes place after the structure has been vacuum baked.
